Japan announced that it will send F-15J fighters to the United Kingdom for the first time, in a move symbolizing the strengthening of military cooperation between the two countries.

The decision was confirmed during a joint press conference by the British and Japanese defense ministers, who highlighted the growing operational integration between the Royal Air Force (RAF) and the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF). In addition to the fighters, transport aircraft will also be part of the deployment, which includes direct exchanges between units of both countries.

The deployment coincides with the presence of the British Carrier Strike Group in Japan as part of Operation Highmast, the UK’s naval mission in the Indo-Pacific. During the visit, British F-35B fighters landed for the first time on the Japanese helicopter carrier JS Kaga, enhancing interoperability between the military forces of the two nations.

London and Tokyo also reaffirmed their commitment to the Global Combat Aircraft Program (GCAP), a partnership with Italy to develop a sixth-generation fighter by 2035. In the joint statement, in addition to praising strategic cooperation, both governments criticized China, North Korea, and Iran for supporting Russia amid the current geopolitical situation.
